IT IS IRA TIME
An individual retirement account, or IRA, is a personal savings plan which allows you to set aside money for retirement, while offering you tax advantages. You may be able to deduct some or all of your contributions to your IRA. You may also be eligible for a tax credit equal to a percentage of your contribution. Amounts in your IRA, including earnings, generally are not taxed until distributed to you. IRA's cannot be owned jointly. However, any amounts remaining in your IRA upon your death can be paid to your beneficiary or beneficiaries.
To contribute to a traditional IRA, you must be under age 70 1/2 at the end of the tax year. You, and/or your spouse if you file a joint return, must have taxable compensation, such as wages, salaries, commissions, tips, bonuses, or net income from self–employment. Taxable alimony and separate maintenance payments received by an individual are treated as compensation for IRA purposes.
Compensation does not include earnings and profits from property, such as rental income, interest and dividend income or any amount received as pension or annuity income, or as deferred compensation. For more information visit the following website:

IMPORTANT CHANGE
Perhaps you've heard or read about Check 21, and are wondering what it's all about. For many, it may mean more bounced checks, as float essentially disappears, and creates a new negotiable instrument called a "substitute check".
The Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act (Check 21) will cut the time it takes a check to clear from days to hours. If you need to change your checking habits, do so before it is too late. Consider signing up for Home Banking!
To make check processing faster, federal law permits banks and credit unions to replace original checks with "substitute" checks. These checks are similar in size to original checks with a slightly reduced image of the front and back of the check. You may use these checks as proof of payment just like the original check. If you request a copy of a check, it may be a substitute. Look for full disclosure in the near future.
*IMPORTANT* The credit union will never generate a phone message telling you your credit or debit card has been compromised and ask you to key in your PIN number to verify your identity. There are many scams out there and they are hoping you will fall prey to their phishing scam. NEVER give your information to anyone regarding your cards.
